The God of The Machine by Isabel Paterson

A good biography is here, including details I only discovered there.

It is said that Ayn Rand would sit at her feet for hours. There is a remarkable difference though, between Ayn Rand and The God of The Machine (which is the only writings of Isabel Paterson I have read). While Rand is systematic and every concept is framed carefully to be free of prevailing connotations as a pure theorist, The God in The Machine is in many ways more similar to German Revolutionary Conservatives. More metaphysical and symbolic, historical patterns made archtypical as energy and forces shaping the material manifestation. Libertarianism, which in Paterson' s and Rand' s day was Classical Liberal and themselves being American Conservative, have largely ditched the metaphysical, warm, romanticism and esoteric, and more profound, answers and have blinded themselves on a pedestal of cold, hard, stone; the coldness of linear and direct pure theory. Yet, they cannot equal those that came before them who like Mises and Paterson had broader thought.
